Grammar Rules

  1. Capitalize the first letter of a sentence.

  2. Capitalize proper nouns. A proper noun names a specific person (or group of people), place, or thing. Examples: George Washington, Americans, Texas, Among Us

  3. Do not capitalize common nouns. A common noun does not name a specific person (or group of people), place, or thing. Examples: leader, citizens, state, video game 

Directions: On your own document, underline the capitalization mistakes in these sentences. We’ve done the first two for you. There are 17 more.

1. Emojis are small pictures. they are used to share an emotion or send a message. Whatever Language you speak, you know what this means: 🙂.

2. The first emojis were made by a man named shigetaka kurita. he’s from Japan. Kurita made 176 original Emojis. You can see them at an art museum in new york city.

3. For thousands of years, people have used Pictures to create messages. Hieroglyphics were used by egyptians to tell stories long ago. 

4. People in different parts of the world like different emojis. In Canada and new zealand, red hearts are popular. In the united States, people love the tears of joy emoji. In ireland, the poop emoji gets used a lot!

5. emojis take time to create. Some take two years to get just right. today you can choose from more than 3,000 emojis!

6. we send billions of emojis every day. And new emojis are released every Year. A bubbles emoji is planned for 2022!

Remind students that a bubbles emoji is coming out in 2022. Then have a class discussion about possible other new emojis. Ask: What other new emojis do you think should be created? What would these new emojis express? What would they look like? Invite students to create their own emojis and share them in a class gallery.
